It’s really hard for something that’s BIG to be COOL. Substack was… is?… cool or more cool because it’s smaller than others but it’s beginning to resemble other social networks more and more. It’s like the adoption curve of fashion and once it hits that specific level of saturation in the market, well it’s on to greener pastures. But social media also feels like a basic need at times especially as face to face human interaction wanes. So what is the solve? Perhaps having different platforms for different things just like streaming services. MySpace and Facebook years ago was like cable tv but now we’re just all on Instagram for sharing work, Substack for thought provoking reads, Facebook for family and loose connections, Reddit for info, and x to get riled up and angry (just what I imagine these are used for mostly). Interesting take on your experience of having a note go viral. I don’t even look at notes as I pretty much just follow a few sources here so also cool to have a better understanding of what they are or how they work. Anyways another great post! Also maybe some Flowers merch at some point because I just love the logo and branding so much :)

Always so thoughtful - thank you, Sean. Yeah, I'm trying to parse out my feelings as some who is also introverted IRL but loves connecting on the internet. Growth is always a necessity for a platform to continue to exist so it's all to be expected, but it's definitely given me more to think about in terms of my own goals. I think that's also why I'm curious about playing with format - maybe a sporadic podcast would be fun, been thinking a lot about voice notes but that feels really intimate...idk!

And YES!!!! FLOWERS MERCH HAS BEEN MADE AND IS COMING!!!!

Incredible images. Always love seeing lyrical / gentle portraits of athletes. Which photobook are they from?
