Some thoughts on a new (olde) internet
I miss the coziness of being in more intentional company on the internet. And this format (as in writing) feels closer to honesty and reflection as opposed to “Here is some new *content!* (yuck) in a feed you can’t reach the end of and honestly…you shouldn’t. I like this format, too, because the small little “chat rooms” embedded in each email feel “community-building” (for lack of a better phrase, sorry) rather than siloed like a comment or a dm, which both feel limited. Here interactions between us all can feel a bit more niche and special again, don’t you think? Substacks are an investment of time on everyone’s part and you can’t subscribe to too many, not as many people as you follow on Instagram. To subscribe, you think you have the ability to fit this very specific read into your rotation. Likes and comments are quick and kinda brainless on Instagram, but this format requires actual attention, actual time, actual thought, actual patience. Patience is so hot to me right now!
